Field Day Gets A New Look The June meeting will also provide one more opportunity to sign-up for 2016 Field Day pins and participation. This year's event is expected to be the largest in Club history, with Saturday, June 25 being promoted publicly as Field Day/Family Day. In addition to the public being invited to watch amateur radio operators participate in the national Field Day contest, on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be junior weather observation classes for youths and teens taught by retired WAND-TV meteorologist Lee Davis, W9IDS; a "Maker Faire" featuring working displays of 3-D printing and related equipment from the Springfield Makers, whose membership draws heavily from the amateur radio community; electronics projects for youths; and a GOTA (Get on the Air) site to give youngsters and adults an opportunity to experience talking on the air. In addition, there will be indoor displays from Ameren and the National Weather Service. The contest portion will run from 11 a.m. Saturday through 1 p.m. Sunday, all at the Riverton Middle School in Riverton. On Saturday, members of the Riverton High School cheerleading squad will be selling soft drinks and snacks from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m in the Middle School cafeteria. The traditional Field Day Pot Luck dinner, open to those participating in Field Day and their families, will take place at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.
