June 14, 2010 One thing that characterizes our particular time is that information is beginning to become accessible. — How to do things is easier to find out; what other people are doing is easier to find out now. Part of what is important about the New Blankets project is that it is really at the vanguard of this worldwide attempt to make culture easier to mediate and better mediated -- simply by the fact that low power, low cost technology can move information around now. That's changing the power relationships in the world. It's no longer true that you can become quite as powerful simply by knowing stuff that other people don't know. Because it's easier for other people to find stuff out. If the New Blankets project as a whole means one thing to me is that it's grease on the wheels on the transfer of know-how from the talking heads in universities, like me, out into the real world where people live. —Miller Puckette |
Subject: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ... May I direct your attention to this gem provided by Andy Farnell back in the protean mists of time: http://newblankets.org/worth_a_look/#link042 http://newblankets.org/worth_a_look/Andy_Farnell_Pd_RPi_workshop.pdf Is it time for NB to send Andy a "SuitSup cell" (= RPi4 +LG V30) ? Would Andy ever be cajoled into repeating such a lightning-strike as this workshop/guide? Stay tuned for our next episode(s) ... 2020Vision Worldwide Fest |

From: Miller Puckette Subject: smeck (6ch guitar processing patch) released Hi all, I've finally done a good enough job of cleaning up the 'smeck' patch (seen at Pd conventions 2007 and 2009) to consider it releasable. This patch takes a 6-channel signal from a separated guitar pickup (such as the Roland GK series) and does a variety of cool things to it. Smeck is available from: http://msp.ucsd.edu/ cheers Miller |

New Blankets Instant Books for the First Worldwide Childrens Publisher
Here at New Blankets Publishers, we have finally moved forward some steps to providing *Instant Books* and publishing such books for many people and purposes. We hope in particular that these will be the first Worldwide Childrens Press -- e.g. an enterprise not just to produce books for children – but indeed to bring out books written by children and published by children. The idea of these
books is to be extremely portable and fit in a back pocket or a purse
or a backpack. (Of course that means eminently amenable to Little
Free Libraries and comfortable
in a Tiny House as
well …) But the idea is also to publish high
quality books – with sturdy library binding so
that they will last a long time and wear well as gifts from one
person to another. Many of these little books will also certainly
be art books. The art of it
can be engineering or artistic or utilitarian – waterproof children's books or
anything an artist can imagine them to be. Other notes:
If any of these Instant Book ideas interest you — the easiest way to try it out is just to let me print and send you some example books ... just send me a sequence of images and I'll send you back an *Instant Book* (from those images) for you to look at. Rules of the road, If I'm trying to print here at NB and send to you:
NB First Worldwide Childrens Publisher has been a long time percolating. But I'm looking forward to seeing these first Instant Books roll out and get into kids' and others' hands ASAP. And it would be very cool if the first Instant Books off our Press are for the Faddens and their visitors at 6NIM, the Six Nations Indian Museum in Onchiota. |
